WHY PURCHASE A PROPERTY IN CORFU?

You may already have your answer, you maybe one of the many Europeans who have spent numerous years holidaying on the island and know why it is right for you.  If not, read on.

Greece is a member of the European Union and it is recorded statistically, to have the lowest crime rate of any other country in Europe.  Studies also indicate that the cost of living is considerably lower than that of other European destinations favoured by property buyers such as, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.

Corfu is the most northern and the most popular of all the seven Ionian Islands.  It sits at the entrance of the Adriatic and to the north of the Ionian Sea.  The island is 13 kilometres wide and 56 kilometres long, with it’s highest point being “Mount Pantokrator” in the centre at a height of 906 metres.  Thanks to the 300 approximate days of sunshine that falls upon Corfu every year, it remains one of the greenest islands throughout the Meditteranean.  It boasts spectacular scenery with picturesque villages untouched by tourism, filled with tradition and character.  The island itself, has a fascinating history and has passed through numerous rulers and influences.

The island’s main town built largely by the Venetians during their rule in the 15th Century, with it’s stunning architecture is a main attraction in itself.   With it’s esplanades and piazzas, it is a cosmopolitan place enjoyed by young and old alike.

Corfu is surrounded by a beautiful and varied coastline.  It has the precise balance of long sandy beaches, secluded shingle coves, some of which can only be reached by boat, and high cliffs which are the perfect resting point to take in some of the spectacular sunsets.  The small fishing villages and beachside tavernas offer a fine selection of traditional greek cuisine to suit all tastes.

Corfu still holds it’s traditional family values, and in some areas, day to day life is carried out in the same way as centuries ago.

Also due to planning laws, the construction of high-rise residential developments is not permitted.  This therefore enables the island to preserve it’s charm and enables the landscape to retain it’s character and beauty.
